SUU STUDENT COMPLETES SEMESTER LONG INTERNSHIP

For Immediate Release 11/17/2017

Cedar City: Last fall semester, Cameron Kazel, a Senior Political Science student at SUU completed a semester-long internship at the local justice court. His work with the clerk's office would be the basis for his future understanding of real-world legal work.

The work completed would entail the processing of case files that had been previously closed. Those files would then be sorted by type of offense and shredded if applicable. Standard traffic tickets and minor "non-enhanceable" offenses would be kept for one year from the close date. Those offenses that were deemed "enhanceable" would be kept for five years from the close date. All DUI cases were to be kept for ten years.

Cameron would go on to recount his experiences fondly, saying "There has never been a better opportunity in my lifetime to solidify in my mind what is was that I 'wanted to when I grew up'. Getting to see and work firsthand with the clerks and process case files allowed me to learn more about the Judicial system in this country than I ever would have in the classroom".

Cameron will go on to complete a second internship with the court this Fall, and will graduate this December.
